- Wall cabinets are typically mounted with clearance above the counter for the things a laundry needs to reach past – and critically, above a top-load washer the lid has to clear fully, which pushes the wall cabinets higher than the kitchen standard.
That last point is the most common measurement error in laundry rooms. A top-load washer’s lid swings up well above the appliance body, and wall cabinets set at the kitchen height will not open over it. We measure the lid arc, not just the appliance.
